Hitchin' a Ride on Old 91

Photo By Cory Burkhead, 5th Period
For this photo, I went up to the Mt. Rainer Scenic Railroad to try and take some photos in inspiration of my Famous Photographer, Darius Kinsey. He took many photos from 1900-1940 on these same rail lines, so I snapped a few quick ones of Heisler 91, the first geared locomotive of it’s type made in 1929. For the old school effect, I desaturated the photo to turn it B&W, and adjusted the levels and contrast to give it the slightly “underexposed” look, that was common with old plate-glass negative cameras. Tell me whatcha think!

Super cool photo! I like the focus and lighting in the picture. Also, it pretty cool that you stand in front of the moving train to take this photo.

Hey, I really like this picture. After seeing your famous photographer presentation and seeing some of his work, this looks exactly like the pictures he took. You used very good lighting and the contrast is good, also. It’s a really nice shot. Well done!

this is an amazing picture. it takes a lot of determination to stand on train tracks staring down a train just to take a picture. this is a nice crisp picture with great contrast. nice one.

Great job! I think that if you would have done this in color it would have captured a whole different emotion but the black and white is really what makes this photo great.

Heller there,

Wowzers, this picture is wow too good I might say. I really love the black and white it gives so much more to the picture. I really enjoy looking at it, I hope you didn't almost get hit tryin to take this picture. I like how it's alright right at the cross so you don't know which way it is going to go.

Keep It UP !!!

Nice picture. I like how you put the track lines right in front of you. And good job finding a steam train. It looks really good in black and white!

Wow. This is an AMAZING picture!! I love it. The steam coming out of it it great, the fact that its black and white is great, the fact that its coming straight for you is amazing. And most of all I love how old it looks, there’s no houses around no cut down trees, it gives you a taste of the older days. Great job!

Cory I Love this picture, I don’t want to know how you got it but it’s amazing! I love how it’s framed and the lighting is really nice. The position is good too, rather than just having the single track the one curving off to the left really adds to the picture. Nice Job.

This is a nice photo. It really looks like an old photo. The steam from the train adds the antique look to the train.

Wow. The picture is amazing. Maybe if you changed the contrast a little bit it would make the smoke stand out a little bit more instead of kind of dissappearing into the trees. great job.

I really like this picture. It would be cool if you got the smoke to be a little brighter. Maybe change the contrast a little. But you can really tell that the picture is supposed to look like it was back in the day. Nice job!!

This is a really amazing picture. It's uncanny how true to the style this is. Nothing to recommend here.

dang cory, your super popular now. you deserve it for this shot. i can see you riding head on with your motorcycle and camera. this is a dope B&W i like the plumes of smoke coming from the train and how you can see every detail. you did a great job of making it look like an "old time" photo.

i like the sunject of the image and the detail pf the train but i would like to see it in color

Good picture. I would have done two things differently and thats it. I would have had more of the sky/smoke from the train in the picture. And cropped up closer to the tracks that the train is on. I might have even taken it into photoshop and edited the colors slightly.

This is a great picture, the black and white makes it seem very old fashioned. I think that the focus is perfect for this picture, nothing is too fuzzy and nothing is too clear. The train tracks leading to the train is a nice touch. This is a great photo and if it were me I’d frame it and put it in my front room.
