Dock

Annie G.
I took this picture on the Tacoma waterfront. It was about 11:00 and I used an 8 second shutter speed. I think that the colors could have been better, but I like the contrast and the way the lights look.

Return of the Ankh

Xavier Ness
The inspiration for this photo derived from a new way of thinking. I was influenced by Pan-Africa, and the spiritual aspects of the theme. The word ‘Ulimwengu’ is Swahili for Universe; this term exemplified the vastness of spirituality for me. I wanted to convey my subject in a certain manner. Strength, ethnicity, and definition. My ten year old sister served as my subject, we teased her hair which naturally framed her face and I applied red acrylic paint to her neck down to her shoulders and loosely swiped her face with the paint. She is wrapped in a south African fabric, a present given to me in junior high. When I released this photo, my distant family applauded me. This photo represents self acceptance and exploration into spirituality.

9:16PM

Sierra A.
I took this photo on Alki beach in Seattle. It was 9:16pm and very, very, VERY cold outside. I was messing with the different exposures to try to get a good photo of not only the city but the lights reflecting off the water and the stars in the sky. I really liked the picture and how the colors turned out and how the sky was light up with stars.

Oyster House

By Nicole S.
I was in Olympia along the waterfront and I really liked the look of the building. The logo was bold against a plainly colored wall. The lighting was a little difficult because it was super bright outside but I really liked the way that it turned out. This was one of my favorites that I took for our Travel Across Washington assignment.

Bradley Lake

This is an HDR photo I did for a project. I went out to Bradley lake and took a few bracketed shots of the lake, and this one was my favourite. I love that the trees are reflected on the water. For my first time trying HDR, it turned out nicely.

Beauty Princess

I took this picture for our outdoor portrait assignment. It was fun to use my sister, but it was also sort of difficult. She ending up posing herself the whole time and she had a lot of fun with it. It was fun to take pictures of her. This was one of my favorite pictures I took. I changed the picture to black & white to give it a “senior portrait” look.

Senior 2011

Jennifer D
I took my friends senior picture for are outside portrait assignment. We were at the park around the time the sun was going down because I love the lighting around that time. I used the cloudy white balance and at ISO of 1600.

Glass Tower

This is a photo I took for my travel Washington assignment. It was taken near the Glass Museum in Tacoma. I used HDR toning to bring out some of the details in the clouds as well as the colors in the sky and reflected in the glass.

Dark Clouds

I took this photo on my way back from Kent, as were going down this huge hill I started looking at the clouds and thought it looked amazing on how the dark clouds were sitting right above the light blue sky.

No Name, Caleb

This photo wasn’t taken for an assignment; it was just a random picture on a sunny day. I thought it was interesting point of view from the camera on the sidewalk of Mount Rainier on a prime sunny day in WA.

Safety First

I took this picture while I was shooting my famous photographer pictures. My guy shoots industrial type pictures and I stumbled upon this sign. I thought it was really good set up because there is the sign with the bright orange traffic cone. I love the depth of field in this picture and my lighting looks good as well. What I struggled with was the sky and how only a part of it is bright blue and the rest is all clouds. I didn’t end up using this picture for my assignment but I defiantly like it on it’s own.

Farm Life

Lauren H
I took this picture in Eatonville for my travel Washington assignment. My friend Amanda and I pulled over on highway 161 and found this cute farm with hay barrels and barbed wire. It was a rainy dreary day so the fog in the hills acted as a great background.

Studio

Kayla K.
I took this photo for the studio portraits. This photo was one of my last photos and I kind of just took it not thinking. The light was kind of hard to work with but it turned out. I liked that there was two people instead of one because it would have been kind of boring. I kept the backgrouns dark so the focus was more on the people.

Blossoms

I took this photo at my dads Orchards in Yakima. I was playing with the perspective of this photo. For example, I was trying to get the trees at the end still being seen. It is so fun to take pictures there, it really shows my creativity.

Spring Flowers

This is a picture I took at Pike Place Market in Seattle. To take the picture, I used manual focus to create a greater depth of field. In Photoshop I adjusted the layers and vibrancy of the photo. Overall, I am happy with the outcome of my picture!

Oranges

This is one of the photos I took for my Colors assignment. I set up a white backdrop, and 2 big studio lights. The way the oranges were arranged created many dark shadows, which made it difficult for me to get a usable shot. To edit this picture I slightly changed the levels on Photoshop. I am very pleased with how this picture came out!

A Pirate’s Life For Me

I took this picture for my famous photographer assignment. I adventured out to Tacoma to see if I could find some abandoned, old looking buildings. I ended up taking pictures of the old foundation on the Tacoma Waterfront. I really like this picture because it makes you feel like you are out at sea or looking out the window of a big ship. I added a little vibrancy to the shot to add to the rustic look of the window. Over all I am proud of my shot.

Victory

I was in Kirkland with my family and my brother and I were messing around with pictures. It was a really bright day outside so it was tricky to get good lighting but I am happy with the way I adjusted the settings. I really like the blue sky and the background behind him.

Fumée

Lauren H.
I took this picture on a bridge by the Pike Place Market. It was really difficult to get the lighting right because the street lights were so orange. I think it turned out ok. I turned the vibrance down and the saturation down.
