Annie

This photo was taken without expectation. I hadn’t met the model; she had asked if I would be interested in taking her photo the day before. I agreed and was quite amazed by how comfortable we both were with each other. I felt it was my first experience with a professional collaboration. With this photo, I used natural lighting, drawn from my windows. I work in a very small space, in my bedroom/temporary studio. I hung some dark wool fabric from the ceiling and that served as my backdrop. I experimented with reflectors for the first time, and it’s fascinating how little light you actually need. I altered the coloring of the photo; she was quite pale in the photo, so I warmed the tones. i.e. to also bring contrast to her red hair.

Bravo!

This is interesting, but very weird for a high school kid. You say you were comfortable with her during the photo shoot, which makes this even more weird.

I think this photo is very weird for a high school kid, and the thought of you saying the two of you were very comfortable, made this even weirder at a high school level of photography.

I absolutely LOVE these photos! They are what I try to shoot. I love the truthfulness in the photos. The only thing I would maybe fix is the placement of the smaller pictures. I would have put them on the bottom or centered if possible. I would love to work with you in the future (not model for you but photograph with you). Great job!
