Lit Up!

By: Austin Wolfe
This photo was taken originally for a night themed assignment. I just walked around the neighbor hood for about an hour and came up with some really neat pictures. For this one, I set up my tripod and framed the house how I wanted. Then I waited for a car to drive by to trigger the shutter, this gave the photo that streak you see at the bottom. I am very satisfied w3ith this picture, thanks!

Underwater vortex

This is one of the photos I took for my splash assignment. I used a tripod and my camera was on flash with a 1\200 shutter speed. I also used a big glass bowl with a beach towel for the background and a water bottle with a nozzle to make the splashes. It was pretty tough timing the splashes right and getting the splashes in the right spot to be in focus. This was one of the few successful pictures I took. What I like about this picture are the greens and blues that were reflected in the splash, the whirlpool like shape and the bubbles around the bottom. What I don’t really like how the top rim of the splash is blurry and the back is more in focus. I think that if that part of the splash were more in focus then this picture would look better.

Mixed Signals

I took this photo for my “Night” assignment. It took some careful timing, because I had to click the shutter about two seconds before it switched between “walk” and “don’t walk”. I am very happy with the way it turned out, and it was one of my favorite shots of the night.

Need for Speed

I took this photo during my night time photography assignment which I really enjoyed. I was on the way to the Y and decided to try some night photography while driving. I used a tripod and sat in the back seat of the car. Even though I had the tripod it was still a challenge to try my best to capture the inner part of the car in focus. I used a 13 second shudder speed for this picture and an ISO of 250. I personally really like this picture and the neon lights. Even though the dash and stereo aren’t in the greatest focus but I believe it looks good for being in a moving car with a slower shudder speed. The only thing I do not like about this picture is that the drivers hand is very blurry. I think it would have made the picture look even better if the hand was in more focus.

No Title

I took this picture after we had the big wind storm. I was standing on the tree trunk and took a shot of the slit tree that fell across the road. I liked this picture because I got a good shot of both pieces of the trunk and the splitting affect of the tree.

Blue

I thought the blue food coloring would look really good against the red table cloth. I think it worked better then I had expected. The cloth behind had gotten wet by previous splashes so I edited out the wet marks using the clone tool in Photoshop. I’m happy with the final product.

This was part of my “Night Theme” assignment. I took this car out to a few places to take some pictures, and at one point decided to start taking pictures of the car itself. This is the picture I’m most proud of, and I really like the angle that I took it at. My aim was to make it look like one of those photos you might find in a car magazine, and I think I did a pretty good job of it. I used a slow shutter speed and a small aperture. In case anyone is wondering, I did use Photoshop to remove the license plate.

A Deer in Headlights

This was an outcome for my Night assignment. In our yard my dad has these deer and I thought it would be great to experiment with it. I took another one with the shutter speed longer and it made it much too bright. I thought this one was perfect because the bushes are also in focus as well as the non-moving lights on the deer. I had the shutter speed about eight or so seconds. It really turned out how I planned for it to and I really love this picture.

Rainy Day

This picture was a result of my Faceless Portraits assignment. It has been raining continuously so I had the great idea of having my friend, Annie Guthrie, stand in the rain with an umbrella. It worked our very well and I got quite a few good pictures like this but I liked this the most because it looks like she’s waiting to be picked up. And I like how the ground was still wet from the rain so it worked out even better.

Vans

I love this picture. I think the color is good it’s a tad bit to light, but I’m still very proud of it. I took this picture out driving around with my friend in Tacoma. I was looking down at my feet and thought to myself this would make a really cool picture. Overall I am very pleased with the results.
