Drop It!

I was taking photos for my grab bag assignment that we had gotten from our teacher. When I was done I put the orange Winnie the pooh top onto my couch for a second. As I was going back to grab it my dog took the top off my couch and ran away with it. Thinking of the pictures that I could get I instantly grabbed my camera and this came out.

Drift Wood

I took this picture during the flooding of the Puyallup River on January 8, 2008. This is a shot I got on a walkway bridge under a road bridge near Tiffany’s Skate Rink. My dad, sister and I were headed back across the bridge from looking at the flooding rink parking lot when the piece of drift wood caught my eye. I love the way it looks sort of jammed under the fence like its trapped. The river water had been a good 5-6 feet higher the night before and it was still in places that it shouldn’t have been, as in it hadn’t receded completely yet. The water went down before I got this shot at about 10am. I like this picture because it shows the reality of flooding and it looks dark, muddy, wet and sad. It’s also original because I don’t think that many other people took the extra trip downtown just to get this shot. I did a levels adjustment and messed with the hue and saturation a bit. Tell me what you think!

Color Splash

I took this picture for our selective coloring assignment, and I really liked it without manipulating it. I think the lighting is really unique and I like the darkness in the picture. I think it makes the color stand out more. I think it could stand to be a little bit brighter, but at the same time I really like the mood of the picture.

Weightless Snow

My all time favorite picture I’ve taken period. I had to get up on a ladder to get the snow laying on the branches. The snow doesn’t look like it could be staying in place like it is. I used aperture to capture the snow and tree branches in focus. The edges managed to get blurry which made my photo look more unique.

Simplicity in Spring
I took this photo a long time ago- last spring, actually. But recently I decided to edit it a bit and give it a cool blue tone using Variations in Photoshop. I was happy with the way it turned out, and how it isn’t as boring as it used to be after the editing. I like the small depth-of-field the picture has and how it reminds me of springtime .

Fire
I took this when I was experimenting with taking pictures of our fireplace at different shutter speeds. They all turned out interesting (fire is a good subject), but I liked the ones taken with a fast shutter speed best because they made the fire look transparent. The only editing I did to this photo was to crop out the edges of the fireplace.
