Photo by Carl Canary, 6th Period
I took this photo using a tripod and about a three or four second shutter speed. I was merely trying to create lines from the light off of cars (an over used technique) and it turned out to look a lot lighter than I had anticipated. And the green light from the stop light turned blue. I like the photo because the tripod stayed perfectly still and the picture is much more crisp than I had anticipated.

lots of empty space. fill the picture next time. otherwise it is good
I agree that the empty space is not helping your image, you should try it again. While you say that it is an overused technique, it can be used to cause the viewers eye to move through the composition. Try to find a more interesting angle. Having the lights create a diagonal line will yield a more dynamic composition. Also look for other subjects, like the street lights or the sign in the foreground. Find an angle that will lead viewers eye to this subject instead of making the lights themselves the subjects. Place the subject in an important position like on the a rule of thirds sweet spot and get close enough to reveal its character. I have found that it takes lots of attempts to get the correct camera settings so that the lights look like you want them to.
I like it the way that it is. It could have been cropped to where the car lights are on the top line of the rule of thirds, but other than that it's a cool picture.
I like this picture, the open space in the left makes me wonder what is over there. You kept the camera really still, good job!
I like the way you left some space to the left, it makes me wonder what is in the dark area. I like it a lot, you kept the camera very still.
Really cool pic carl its cool how you got such a focused picture with such a slow shutter speed and the two green lights in the background that have the star shaped light around them is a perfect touch for this picture. FORTE
