I took this picture during a power outage that we had a few weeks ago. My houses power was out for a while, so I got bored and started taking pictures of the candles around the house. I like this photo because it captures the first flame right in front of you, and then you see the other flame focused in the back of the photo. I also like how everything around the flames was dark; it makes the little part of the candle and the flame just pop out in this picture.

You’re right; the candles do “pop” out more in the darkness. It almost looks like you used Photoshop the get the unfocused candle in the picture.
